January 2023

Happy New Year, Quilters! The Weyburn Crocus Quilt met on January 3, 2023 and there were 20 members in person plus 9 on Zoom. The Program included a demonstration on how to subscribe to our Blog by Jill; a video on Snap Pouches; and a video on using the Rapid Fire Lemoyne Star ruler which our Guild has in our library.

Show and Tell

There was an excellent variety of items shown.

Charlene showed a Christmas Ball that she had made by folding fabric and pinning it to cover the ball. She said it was very easy. She purchased the fabric from Christa M. and she bought the pins and beads from the Dollar Store. The balls were hard to find.

Verla showed a cute appliqued Christmas wall hanging that she started when she took a class in Estevan years ago. She is pleased to have completed this UFO!

From a free pattern online, and fabric purchased in Virden, Judy finished this attractive “Winter Palace” Table Runner. This is a gift for her granddaughter. Judy learned various tricks and techniques doing this.

Marlene showed a unique personal quilt that she designed herself using grid paper to include all the family names. She cut the letters with her Alphabet Accuquilt cutter and then she appliqued them. She used three colours in the borders. Marlene plans to keep this quilt for herself after she has it hand quilted by the Khedive Quilters.

Leanne A. showed a beautiful large Queen quilt (98″ x 98″) called “Stars in the Valley”. The fabric and backing are from Second Story Quilting and it was a Quilt Along. Colleen did the long arm quilting.

Shelley G. made this pretty lap quilt in rectangular blocks, alternating light and dark shades of a Bali Jelly Roll and adding a flannel backing. Shelley quilted it herself using green masking tape to set up the grid pattern. Shelley made this quilt for a friend who loves the colour purple. Her friend injured her leg and had to take early retirement. She’ll be spending a lot of time reading and watching TV with her feet up so Shelley wanted to make her a quilt to snuggle under in her chair this winter.

Dorothy B. showed a very beautiful quilt, “Turquoise Bargello”, designed and sewn by Eileen Wright. Eileen has donated this quilt to our Guild to be used for a future raffle. The Guild thanks Eileen for her generosity!!

Our next Guild meeting will be on February 7, 2023. Happy Quilting, everyone!
