April 3, 2018 Guild Meeting

The regular Guild meeting was held on April 3 and there were 29 members in attendance.

Plans were made for our Guild’s upcoming Quilt Show “Spring Bouquet of Quilts VII” to be held on Friday, April 27 (4 – 9 p.m.) and Saturday, April 28 (10 – 4 p.m.) at the Weyburn Curling Rink (at the Exhibition Grounds off Government Rd.).  Daily admission is $5 (with no charge for students and children). There will be 4 vendors who will also each provide a demo; a Quilt Raffle; Raffle Baskets; and a concession available.  Approximately 175 items are entered for display, plus we will have two of our Guild members as Feature Quilters.  This year we are very pleased to have as our Guest Quilter, Susan Jaenen-Griffin from Moosomin, who will bring her interesting and creative display of “50 Yarns of Lyme Dis-Ease Series”.  It sounds very intriguing!

The Program for our Meeting was the Disappearing Hour Glass 1, 2, and 3.  Lydia, Dorothy and Lynne provided examples of how to create three different patterns by cutting 10″ squares  into an hour glass and then cutting them again.  Below Lydia and Dorothy are showing the 3 patterns.  The fabrics used as samples were very striking!

Show and Tell

We all enjoy seeing what others have made and also hearing the story behind their projects.

Adeline spent the winter in Osoyoos, BC where she joined the Quilt Guild there. They meet every Tuesday and sew from 9:30 – 3 p.m.  Adeline learned lots of techniques from the BC quilters, and she had some samples of coloured boxes to show such as Hollow Boxes pictured on the left.  Adeline also had a beautiful Spiral Table Runner she had completed, made with a 10″ Wedge ruler.

Bonnie had attended a Ricky Tims event at the Peace Gardens a few years ago and she purchased his book.  Bonnie was happy to finish this wall hanging pictured above — Kaleidoscope.  It is so colourful!  Jill and Colleen, who had also attend the Ricky Tims event, gave Bonnie a little help in getting started.

When we think of quilting we usually think of fabric, but Vera had a unique item to show.  While down south she had taken a class and painted a two-sided wooden sign that can be hung outside.  How unique!

Eileen showed her beautiful blue “Two Fabric Bargello” that she had started at a retreat and she has now completed.  Colleen did the lovely machine quilting.

Leanne was all set in March for St. Patrick’s Day with this cute shamrock wall hanging. She did free motion quilting on the back.

Yvonne showed her beautiful pastel “Between the Lines” quilt. She started it in September, 2017 and she just recently completed it in April.  Terry did the longarm quilting.

All these items are some wonderful samples of what we will have in the Quilt Show! All the colour and designs will be fascinating to see!
